Movement

Since 2017, Kebun Kumara has run yearly campaigns to move people toward a healthier relationship with their waste — from trading trash for sunflower seedlings in No Pollution Resolution, to collective household waste pickups in Kompos Kolektif with Magalarva, and finally our newest campaign Gerakan Ayam Sekolah to combat waste in schools!

Kompos Kolektif

Kompos Kolektif

Kompos Kolektif is a household food-waste management initiative by Kebun Kumara, developed in collaboration with Magalarva. It is a practical, community-based solution which encourages households to separate organic waste at source and ensure its purposeful processing. Since its launch, it has scaled across the Greater Jakarta area, serving hundreds of households and diverting significant volumes of food waste from landfills (over 121 tons by 2023). Through this model, Kompos Kolektif combines education, service, and circular waste systems to transform everyday household habits into measurable environmental impact. Kompos Kolektif is now fully operated by Magalarva through a subscription-based waste collection service, where household food waste is picked up regularly and processed using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bioconversion into maggot-feed, compost and soil inputs. About Magalarva: Magalarva is the fastest growing Black Soldier Fly protein producing company based in Indonesia. They bring organic sidestream back into the food system by bio-converting them into high quality products using Black Soldier Fly larvae.

Gerakan Ayam Sekolah

Gerakan Ayam Sekolah

In 2026, Kebun Kumara is launching its newest pillar campaign, "Gerakan Ayam Sekolah" to further our commitment in delivering meaningful solutions for our urgent waste problems. Gerakan Ayam Sekolah is our commitment to making schools the frontline of a more sustainable future. Through the installation of Kandang Kumaruyuk on school grounds, we bring the full cycle of ecological living into daily school life. Students, teachers and the school community will have the opportunity to learn to manage organic waste, produce fresh eggs, and harvest natural compost. Every installation comes with hands-on training for teachers and school staff — equipping communities not just with a coop, but with the knowledge and confidence to sustain it independently. Gerakan Ayam Sekolah is a movement open to collaboration. We welcome sponsors, partners, and mission-aligned organizations to grow this initiative alongside us to bring ecological education to more schools, more children, and more communities across Indonesia.
